The Newcastle Tree Services team come across a lot of different fungi during our tree work across Newcastle and Northumberland. And we often get asked by customers whether the fungi we find is edible or not. So here’s one fungi we’re featuring today.

Fungi name: Coprinus comatus (Shaggy Inkcap or Lawyers Wig).

Found where: Habitat on grass, lawns, roadsides, rubbish heaps, recently disturbed soil.

Found when: Late Summer – Autumn.

Rarity: Very common.

Edible: Yes. Good while gills are still white.
