Checo, Operations Manager at Newcastle Tree Services and Jack, Founder at Turned Studios pictured milling and processing a huge Fagus sylvatica (Beech).

We ended up with some huge milled planks which we will be making dining tables with, and 180 bowl blanks which Jack will be turning into amazing bowls.

The accentuated black lines in the wood is called spalting. Spalting is caused by fungi primarily in dead wood.

And this beautiful and unique coloration in spalting is actually sought by woodworkers.
